Beechy and Jules - Ian and Julie worked hard on the Friday preparing the room and once again it totally set the mood for the following evening and looked fabulous with lots of scene setters and 70s paraphernalia on the walls.
Balloons were blown up, LP covers were placed around the walls and Beechy's (home made!) LP bowls were filled with retro sweets.
Julie added a display with some of her lovely light bottles - with a percentage of sales being donated to St Giles.
Very appropriate and very pretty!
So - after the usual last minute Saturday morning scrutiny under the critical eye of Aunt Margaret the room was ready for another fabulous fancy dress evening.
Our 1970s theme always seems to be very popular - possibly because it's an era that a lot of us can relate to - and the music is definitely the best ever!!
So the evening began!
We had one of the best turn outs for a long time with over 140 guests - and lots of colourful and inventive costumes.Elvis was in the building, as were the Three Degrees, Pink Ladies with their T Birds, the Yellowcoats and Peggy from Hi De Hi, some of ABBA and the Bay City Rollers, miscellaneous Beatles plus numerous hippies and flower power children.
Our DJ Beechy looked great (and very tall!) in his afro, purple shirt and platforms.
Food service was slow due to unavoidable staff shortages but the young crew worked amazingly well as a team and everyone got their meals.
Beechy kept the party mood going with his fab music - even starting a sing-a-long at one point and people soon started to get up to dance - either once they had eaten or whilst waiting for their food.
So great to see everyone taking the little glitches in their stride!
... and once people had finished their meals Jules organised the 'clear-up' crew to take the plates and help the over stretched waiting on staff.
The music was fab and the dance floor was full all night!
So great to see our lovely Pauline!
We had our usual game of stand-up bingo.
Peggy decided to help the staff and buffed up the bar and cleaned the windows whilst the rest of the Yellowcoats watched.
Very funny!
Birthday celebrations for Kerry!..
A great evening once again. All too soon it was time to go home and clear up.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended.
Special thanks to those who gave over and above - helium for the balloons, extra donations from costume hire and sales, birthday table donations, stand up bingo prize money and others I've forgotten.
Thanks also to Beechy and Jules for organising and putting it all together (Mike and I did nothing this year!!) - and of course to Beechy for his fab disco which keeps all the toes tapping and the arms waving.
This year we must give extra special thanks to Matt and the rest of the Elms crew who, although being very short staffed, still managed to give us excellent service with a smile on their faces! Well done to all of them.
The monies raised will be used by St Giles to buy more sensory equipment for the students for both indoor and outdoor use (see previous blogs for info on the items our donations have been able to purchase).
But of course none of this would be possible without our regular band of attendees who support us in all our charity ventures - so thank you everyone!

The cheque was presented to the school and will be used to help pay for interactive flooring in their sensory room.
