In aid of St Giles School

Another fund raiser for the lovely students at St Giles school - and a chance for our shy and retiring partygoers to dress up as characters from any film or movie!
The monies raised will be used to buy more communications equipment for the pupils at the school.
A great theme and we got a great response from everyone - lots of variety, great imagination and lots of colour!
The room was decorated with film posters and artwork from the students at St Giles (more of that later)... Clipboards for the tables and foyer were donated by Robin (bruv) - buying them was less time consuming than making them he had decided!
This was the first time ever that Mike and I had not been to help to decorate the room - so the first time we saw it was when we arrived in the evening - so it had a great WOW impact!...
Beechy was in charge as Fred Flintstone - ably assisted by usherette and popcorn seller Jules...
Jules had a magnificent tray for her popcorn - complete with shelves, lighting and a little hole to put her torch!
So once she had sorted out Beechy's/Fred's tie (and told him off for leaving his club at home!) she busied herself by giving out free popcorn and showing everyone to their seats...

As people started to arrive we were able to see that everyone had put loads of thought, imagination and effort into their costumes
The staff of St Giles chose the best costume for a prize of two cinema tickets - the winners were Penelope Pitstop and Dick Dastardly...

And of course we had to have the group picture for the Retford Times.
So we all stood one way... and then realised that we couldn't take the shot through Beechy's disco lights...
So we all swivelled round and the usherette directed everyone to bunch up tight so that they would fit in the picture...
What a lovely colourful shot with flapper (I said flapper!) Pauline (our lovely liaison lady from St Giles) sitting demurely in the middle with a gladiator on one side and Nanny McPhee on the other!
Only in Retford...
Another angle - I ran round to the other side to stand with Mike (a bit like those long school photos where there was always someone who ran round from one end to the other as the shot was being panned across - and appeared on it twice!)
Does it look like Nanny McPhee is having trouble with her tooth?!
I love these next two shots... Beechy/Fred nipped in for a quick photo but it looks as though Penelope Pitstop is chasing him! Very funny...
As it is our family's charity fundraiser (but run and organised by Beechy obvs!) we like to pop in quite a few of our family pics - well some of us do (I don't include Julie in that) and we make the others join in whether they want to or not...
So here we are - as always in age order...
Now the more observant amongst you may notice that we are all in fancy dress apart from Robin who is wearing civvies and a pained expression.
He had pulled a muscle (quite funny really but I got the blame) and was suffering - and has vowed never to hoover again!
I would also like it noted that for once I am the sensible sister here!...
Before retiring home hurt Robin did play his part - and donned the Doncaster Rovers Eric the Viking mascot costume in order to present a cheque on behalf of the Supporters Club. They had raised £250 by holding raffles on the supporters' buses on their way to matches.
Thank you so much Paul M mwah mwah (Andy Pandy) for organising that.
So Robin got changed and then spent a very sweaty five minutes waiting for Pauline to finish her speech before trotting out to give her the cheque.
Pauline explained how the monies raised would be spent buying equipment to help the pupils with their communication skills. She also talked about some of the artwork that the children had done. They put a great deal of effort into their pictures and I'm sure that they have a lot of fun making them. So we always like to show them off to everyone and then later we raffle some of them off - it's always win win for us!!
We had our usual game of stand up bingo and Jules had made some little rice stuffed sock people (these are ornaments, not toys!) - and she donated 50% of the sales to our charity monies. Thank you Julie!
The fancy dress shop also donated 10% from the sales of costumes hired there for the event - very generous - thank you!
And we sold some of the posters and the clapper boards (thank you Robin for donating them) - every little bit helps and it all goes to the school so thank you all for buying things that you probably don't need or even want - we really do appreciate it!
(Actually - on that theme - Icky probably woke up the next morning and wondered why he was the proud owner of a life sized picture of Elvis!! It was all down to Julie's powers of persuasion "you do need it Icky - it will look lovely on the wall"... This seems to work particularly well when the punter has had a drink or two - it's our tried and tested method!)
We tried to keep a bit of a movie theme to the food for the evening - hot dogs or chilli con carne with rice and nachos. Dessert was brownie and ice cream or cheesecake.
Luckily Julie decided against selling ice cream in the interval (she gets a bit carried away and we had enough to do without sticking flakes in cornets!) and she settled for running around with the popcorn and shining her torch while she showed people to their seats!
So once we'd eaten and bingoed we got down to the serious business of DANCING - movie themed of course!
But first we had the Officers' dance off! We had three of them - don't seem to have a picture of the third one - sorry!
Thank you Beechy for your film themed disco music - brill as always! Everyone was soon up and boogying!

Looks like Julie knocked her hat off with dancing so enthusiastically!
I think everyone was trying to do one of those dances which had particular moves - and doing it so badly that Beechy made them start again while he showed them what to do and when - from the safety of his decks!
Not sure what Carol and Julie were doing here and I think I'm time warping...
Yes it's obviously the time warp - again.... it's just a jump to the left etc, etc - think I'm on my pelvic thrusts...
And look at Nanny McPhee giving it some welly!...

So that was our night - and what a night it was!
